Basic Concept of ECG

ECG, short for electrocardiogram, is a medical test that records the heart's electrical activity. During the test of ECG, the electrical signals generated by the heart as it beats are measured and displayed visually on a graph of paper. These signals are represented by a series of waves on the ECG graph, each labeled with letters and numbers to indicate different features of the heart's activity.


To measure these electrical impulses, electrodes are placed on the skin of the chest, arms, and legs. These electrodes are connected to a machine that amplifies the electrical signals and displays them as a series of waves on the ECG graph.

The ECG wave pattern consists of several distinct features, such as the P wave, QRS complex, and T wave, which represent different stages of the heart's activity. These stages include atrial depolarization, ventricular depolarization, and ventricular repolarization. By analyzing the shape and timing of these waves, doctors can diagnose various heart conditions, such as arrhythmias, heart attacks, and heart blockages.
